Field trip week is my new favorite holiday. Today the 5th and 6th graders went on their excursion. It just so happened that out of my five class periods today, two were free periods, two were with 5th and 6th grades and one was with 1st grade. And that 1st grade class was my last class of the day.
That's right. I only had to teach from 3:30-4:30 today.
OH YEAH!!!!! <--- Kool-aid Man Style!
Totally slept in 'til 11:45. Totally used my afternoon to eat salmon and broccoli (with ranch dressing purchased at the American food store!!) while watching Gossip Girl (online access to shows in Spain rocks). Totally took my sweet time getting to the bus stop, and still was 40 minutes early 'cause one of the teachers saw me hiking the 45 minute hike in the middle of that darn field on the way to school and did a U-turn and drove me there herself! AWESOME.
And to have my most favorite class of the whole school as my one class of the day? EVEN MORE AWESOME. I don't know what it is about this class that makes them so much cooler than all the other classes combined? They're just so sweet. And so excited to learn. And so quiet. I started using their American names last week and this week they all remembered them, all whipped out their US maps they'd been working on all week when they had a free moment and showed me their progress, all chanted my name when I walked through the door. They're just like as close to tiny little Spanish angles as I've ever seen. I'm sure it's 75% their most amazing teacher. That woman is like the child whisperer for real. But I seriously love this class. They finished the Toy assignment in half the time it took even the third grade class to do it! Like, what!? And they all speak only English to me and even talk to each other in English - despite not knowing a whole lot, of course. I just kind of adore them.
After school was the mildly dreaded duo I tutor. It was eh. But in no time I was out of there and on my way home! And how I do like being home! My roomies are just so silly. I was watching more Gossip Girl tonight and Abby would say, "OMG! You won't believe what happens next!" I'm just so weirded out I like sharing a room with somebody. I feel bad, because I think I got her sick, so I want to do something to make it up to her (she even had to stay home from school today - which was silly since I was home for most of the day, too!)... but I'm not so sure what? I feel bad coughing in the middle of the night and getting home late from tango classes, etc., so I guess that part of sharing a room is a little shitty. But thus far, that's really about it. I like having somebody I can talk to about my day and hear how hers was. I like complaining about the noise outside our room at night and listening to each others' shows on our computers. I don't know what I was so afraid of all these years! Living with people is actually rather splendid in the end. :)
XOXO
