Day 34: Segovia

I woke up late - which surprises nobody - and had to run out of my apartment in my flip flops, trying to stick my contact into my eye as I left. My Spanish parents were buzzing me and they were parked "awkwardly" so I had to hurry it up!

We drove to Segovia - the hometown of my Spanish madre - and walked around and explored all day long. Jesus gave me his super nice Cannon camera and I took around 175 pictures of basically everything. It was a really nice feeling to have a camera in my hands again, even if it wasn't my own (I can't wait for mine to arrive in the mail this week!!!).

The town was very pretty and quaint. :) My favorite part (besides "clara" - beer with Sprite in it or something like that) was going inside the huge cathedral by myself. The feeling I get when I enter a cathedral that giant and that old all alone is ineffable. It feels like my soul can suddenly breathe and everything falls into perspective. I walk as slowly as I can and try to take everything in - focus on every detail - all while taking it all in all at once, at the same time. The energy that those places have is just amazing. It feels like a detox for your spirit for those few minutes when you're inside such a holy, grand structure.

I was grateful for a day away from Alcala and a day all in Spanish traveling and being surrounded by new sights. For some reason, being around my Spanish family makes my nerves fall away and my Spanish becomes extremely fluid - not always grammatically correct, but fluid nonetheless. Hopefully this carries over into this week. :)

XOXO
