Day 149: Maitê's Arrival

Another big thing I was freaking out about the night before was Maitê's arrival. I had had such an amazingly wonderful time while I was at her place in Dublin over break, and I was so nervous she wouldn't have near as much fun as I had when I was there. I don't live in the middle of the city like she did... I don't have cute Brazilian twins for roommates like she did... I don't have a boatload of hilarious and awesome friends like she does... How would her time in Madrid ever even begin to compare to my time in Dublin!?

Woe! Stress! Bah!

I sat in the kitchen, snacking and talking to Katie, trying to calm down, as she would be arriving at any moment and I was still quite nervous about it all. But as soon as she rang the bell and bounded up the stairs, all smiley and happy, all the nerves evaporated instantly. :)

I'd forgotten that why I had such a good time with her was because SHE is so awesome! Haha! We talked all night about all of our news from the past month - she updated me on the twins and Carlota and the pigs, and everybody else. I told her about the three countries I'd gone to after Ireland and some of my Couchsurfing adventures. We only took a break from our stories to go to the grocery store - which was a seriously adorable outing!

I've always been obsessed with going to grocery stores in foreign countries... The food is different, the prices are different... The packaging is different... Everything is soooo exotic! I love it! But I'd never imagined there was anybody else who shared my enthusiasm for such things. And so you can picture my excitement when Maitê started squealing when she noticed the pig legs hanging from the ceiling and the really cheap Lindt chocolate bars. When she found bologna with olives and when she proclaimed her undying love for Spain when she saw that cans of beer were 35 cents, and bottles of wine only €1! It was all just so adorable! :)

It's so funny how you can meet someone for the first time, spend five days with them, not see them for a month, and then when you do see them again, feel like they're an old, close friend!! <3 I can't wait to hang out with her all weekend long and show her my city!!

XOXO
